New Year in Sri Aurobindo Ashram

JANUARY 1 - NEW YEAR'S EVE

Starting in the year 1927, the Sri Aurobindo ashram began the
first New Year’s Celebration. On this eve of the New Year day, the sadhaks
assembled in the Ashram around  midnight and as soon as the clock struck
midnight The Mother welcomed the new year with music on her organ. This was
followed by Pranams in the stillness of the

The Fairy-Tale of the Earth: ‘Savitri’ - by Bhaga

Sixty-three years ago
today, on December 9, 1950, Sri Aurobindo’s body was put into the  white
marble Samadhi that had been built for this purpose in the central courtyard of
the Ashram after his passing away on the 5th.

On the longer sides of the
Samadhi was engraved, in English on one side, in French on the other side, the
Prayer written and signed by the Mother:

December 5, 1950 : Sri Aurobindo left his body

After Sri Aurobindo
withdrew from his body, the Mother may be said to have become physically even
more Aurobindonian than before. Once, when some recent photographs of her were
under scrutiny, she told us that her very face and particularly the manner in
which she smiled were becoming like Sri Aurobindo's. Before his passing, there

There are important aspects of the One Divine Being that we humans have since ever been perceiving as separate entities and giving names to, different ones in our different cultures. ‘Krishna’ is one of those major Aspects, as perceived and named in the Indian spiritual tradition.

I have mentioned this most wonderful Aspect of the Divine already several times on this blog, but

Hostile Forces and the Mother of Sri Aurobindo Ashram

You know, I can say one thing about this.... There's a type of
woman I have met more or less periodically throughout my life. These beings are
under the influence, or are incarnations of, or in any case are responsive to
forces which Theon called 'passive' - not exactly feminine

“The

remark attributed to Philip Guedalla. Now that the euphoria on the advent of

century vis-à-vis the 20th century.

Consumerism surely gave a boost to the
aforesaid euphoria, but beneath it laid man's indefatigable optimism for the
